Video computing in medical devices is nowadays extremely important because of enable doctor and medical specialists to record their activities and permits to review and learn better what they are doing. This process boosted the improvement of medical procedures inclinical analysis and ambulatorial tests. Last but not least, connecting devices it is possible to have real time the contribution of clinical specialists connected remotely and or to share clinical information everywhere.
THE CONTEXT:
EYE diseases diagnostic is one of the possible business areas in the medical segment. The driving aspects in this segment nowadays are mainly the video resolution and quality achievable with moder sensors. On top of this the output is also very crucial. In fact medical specialists requires high quality display with the best possible quality. In fact they should be able to zoom the images taken and analyze them in details. This action requires high quality display resolution and quality. Another important aspect is the easy to use interface. For this reason Android is appreciated: because of people including medical specialist are well used to Android behavior having a mobile phone in their pocket.
DAVE Embedded Systems' KEY ROLE:
DAVE Embedded Systems' know how on HW design and SW integration was crucial for this project. In fact the usage of NXP i.MX6 Dual Plus processor in a plastic enclosure without any active heat sink required a deep study and learning on how to dissipate heat. Another sales point was the know how around Android integration. Integrate Android 6.0 requires deep learning on Linux kernel and Android AOSP which permits to customize the Android environment to the requested specifications.

The Company offers worldwide state-of-the-art technology to enable efficient diagnostics of eye diseases. focusing on imaging products for the diagnostics and monitoring of the eye. Imaging products designed and manufactured are Internet-connected medical devices for the diagnosis and management of ocular pathologies, including the leading causes of blindness, such as Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma. The Know How of this company is concentrated on their capability to design clinical devices and Graphical User Experience. In order to maintain the leadership on these topics they decided to partnership with DAVE Embedded Systems on embedded system design. In particular on HW design and Android integration.
